God is in Control–Trust Him

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

When a cowpuncher applied for an insurance policy, the agent began quizzing him, “have you ever had any accidents?” After a moment’s reflection, the applicant responded, “Nope, but a bronc did kick in two of my ribs last summer, and a couple of years ago a rattlesnake bit me on the ankle.” “Wouldn’t you call those accidents?” asked the agent. “Naw,” replied the ranch hand, “they did it on purpose!” In a sense the cowboy had a point; it all depends on how you look at it.

Seriously speaking, the Christian knows “there are no accidents in the life of a believer.” Circumstances may SEEM to be out of control, and it may appear that he is being buffeted by the adverse winds of cruel fate, but actually nothing happens to a child of God without the knowledge of his heavenly Father. Everything is working out according to His divine purpose.

In Gen. 50 we find Joseph’s interpretation of a trying experience which at the time had seemed to be a calamity. Being cast into a pit and sold into Egypt was a great test of his faith. From the human standpoint it seemed to be a tragedy rather than the providence of God. As Joseph learned later, God indeed “meant it unto good.”

Perhaps you are passing through the deep waters of trial and disappointment? When everything seems to be going against you, remember, these trials and apparent misfortunes are not accidents. God allows such things for a blessed purpose; so patiently trust Him. Someday you will see the reason for it all.
