A Knock and a Voice

Revelation 3:20 – “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

It is to be noted that the Savior not only knocks, but also lifts His voice in calling us to let Him into the deepest recesses of our hearts. An unknown commentator has suggested that the knocking may be likened to the outward circumstances of life, such as sickness, trials and distress, by which the Lord gains our attention and alerts us to the need for His help. The voice, he says, is the Word of God which, through the power of the Holy Spirit, interprets the knock and informs us of the loving Personality who is seeking to gain admittance.

Some years ago King George V and Queen Mary, while vacationing by the seaside, took a walk along the ocean front. When the queen sprained her ankle, the couple was forced to find their way to a nearby cottage to seek assistance. In answer to their knock at the door, a voice called out, “Who’s there?” “King George and Queen Mary,” was the reply. “You don’t expect me to believe that do you?” exclaimed the person inside. “See for yourself,” said the king. Opening the door, the man and his wife immediately invited the royal couple into their home and gave them all the help and hospitality they could find. For years they retold the story and always concluded by saying, “You know, we almost refused to let them in!”

The King of Heaven is standing at your heart’s door. Will you let Him in? Peace, joy, and blessed fellowship can be yours for all eternity if you will only heed His voice and answer the knock of the nail-pierced hand.
