Go Tell a Friend Today

Mark 5:19 – “Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.”

A demon possessed man had been miraculously restored to his right mind. In gratitude he longed to remain with Jesus to worship Him. Although this is the believer’s first duty, it is not all that the Master requires. Jesus made this clear when He told the man to go home to his friends and family and share with them the wonderful things the Lord had done. He immediately obeyed the Savior and testified to all those who knew him. Likewise, when the Holy Spirit directs us to witness, it is vitally important to obey Him at once.

Two close friends were lawyers in the same city. One was a Christian, the other was not. When the unsaved attorney was about to embark on a long journey, the believer felt led to speak to him about Christ before he left. “I’ll do it on the way to the dock,” he said to himself. When they arrived, however, he had failed to do so. Boarding the vessel to bid him farewell, he thought, “When we bring the baggage to his room, I’ll talk to him about his soul.” But a porter took the trunks and suitcases, and they did not go to the stateroom. Finally, he said to himself, “I’ll be sure to witness to him in some quiet place before we say goodbye.”

Suddenly the announcement came for all visitors to leave the ship. The man promised himself to contact his fellow lawyer as soon as he returned, but two months later he received word that his friend had died overseas. With saddened heart, he could only repeat to himself, “I had one day of opportunity to share the gospel with my friend, but I wasted it.!”

Respond to the leading of God’s Spirit and tell your friends about Jesus today, for tomorrow may be too late!
