The New Year is Just Beginning

John 1:1-3 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

What will the New Year bring? None of us can be completely certain about the events of the future. Yet, there is something of which we can be sure. God knows the end from the beginning. Our text reminds us that in the beginning, before there was anything, there was God. The Almighty is self-existent and self-sufficient.

As we embark on another year, let’s begin at the same place. Let’s begin with God. Recognizing Him and relying upon Him, we look forward to the year before us with confidence. This year, we want to keep Him at the center of all that we do. Perhaps you realize that you have not been giving God the place of prominence He deserves and demands in your life. Begin your New Year with God. He wants to help us and be intimately involved in our decisions and our pursuits.

Most, if not all of us, cherish opportunities to start over. Begin anew with God. Make sure that He is preeminent in your life this year. ‘In the beginning was the Word.’ Jesus is the living Word. He is the Truth. As we think about beginning the New Year with God, we must think about beginning with the Word of God: not only the living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, but also the written Word. God’s Word is manna for the hungry soul. His Word illuminates our paths and corrects our hearts when we are tempted to stray

It would do us all good to begin the year, and continue throughout the year, with resolve to spend time each day reading, studying, and meditating on the Bible. Make it your purpose to live by the Word of God. We can face the year knowing with certainty that God has all the wisdom and power we need to succeed. He is the Creator. ‘All things were made by him.’ Surely, we can trust Him to enable us to meet the challenges of the next year. He will make His way known to us as we seek and serve Him. He can supply us with all the grace that we need. Our confidence must be in Him. We shall begin the New Year trusting Him to guide us and use us for His glory.
