The Desire Accomplished

Proverbs 13:19″ – “The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.”

It is a good thing to set goals, an admirable thing to pursue them, and a rewarding thing to fulfill them. The Bible tells us that, “The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul.” It is good to be specific about our purpose and plans. The desire can never be accomplished if there is no definite objective.

Perhaps it is a physical goal, such as healthier living. Maybe you are thinking in terms of spiritual goals, like witnessing or reading the Bible more consistently. Our goals may also include financial desires, such as getting out of debt, or saving for a special need. It is good to be as specific as possible when it comes to goals. If a goal is not specific and measurable, it will not be possible to chart your progress.

It is one thing to list our objectives, but another to accomplish them. If we are going to see these dreams become reality, we are going to have to develop a plan of attack. It cannot be “business as usual” if we sincerely want to see positive changes in our lives. If we continue to do what we have been doing, we will more than likely have the same results. We need to be specific about what we intend to do differently, and then commit to action. Proverbs 21:25 says, “The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.” We must eliminate from our lives the activities or habits that are hindering our progress.

Our text says, “it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.” To see our worthwhile goals accomplished, we are going to have to distance ourselves from the things that defeat our purposes, and be determined to see our desires fulfilled. When we fail in some way, we should not despair. We can get back on our feet and persevere with added resolve. The reward comes as we see the completion of our desires. Our text describes it as being, “sweet to the soul.” It is a most satisfying experience to see how God can help us reach goals and accomplish our desires that are in agreement with His will.
