Are We Approved by the King?

2 Timothy 2:15 – “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

A king once decided that it would be wise to stimulate the merchants of his realm to make their shops more attractive. As he rode down the street of a small village, he noticed a very dilapidated place of business. Stopping to investigate, he found the store in complete disarray. The floor was filthy, and the merchandise was dusty and disorganized. The proprietor himself was listless and unkempt and wore a dirty apron.

Startled at the king’s arrival, the man blushed and made excuse that he was on the brink of bankruptcy. The king thought that this was a good spot to begin his reform movement, so he said, “If you will tidy up this place and set it in order as I direct you, I will allow you to put over your door the endorsement, “Approved by the King.'” The shopkeeper was encouraged and immediately began to clean and remodel his store. After improving the looks of his merchandise, he took a bath, combed his hair, and put on a new apron. When the king put his sign of approval on the outside of the building, everyone took notice and it soon became a hub of activity and the pride of the village.

Dear reader, the King of Kings wants all His subjects to bring honor to His name by being workman of whom He will not be ashamed. If you study His Word, renew your zeal, and let the Holy Spirit cleanse your life, He has promised to give you joy and His all-important “seal of approval.”

Doing as the Lord directs will also refresh the hearts of the needy souls who daily cross, your pathway. What is more, when life’s day is done, Heaven’s glad word of welcome will still be, “Approved by the King!”
