Did You Turn Time Backward?

Colossians 4:5 – “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.”

About a year ago the following headline in a newspaper caught my eye: DID YOU TURN TIME BACKWARD? The article went on to say, “This is the day of the annual switch from daylight-saving time to standard time. The change is made officially in the morning at 2 a.m. when it became 1 a.m. in compliance with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Uniform Time Act of 1966.

On that day in households all across America the above headline was echoed and re-echoed. “Did you turn the time back?” When you think of it, this is really a foolish question. It’s impossible to “turn time back.” We might make an adjustment in our reckoning of it. We can reset our clocks. But time itself is beyond our control. It can neither be speeded up, nor turned back. It marches right on!

How futile the sentiment expressed in those words; “Backward, turn backward, O time in your flight; make me a child again, just for tonight.” We cannot return to the days of our youth; neither can we recall past failures, nor recapture lost opportunities. Because of this the “now” is precious. It must never be squandered. No wonder the apostle tells us to “walk in wisdom……redeeming the time.”

How have you been spending your days and hours? Selfishly? For the Lord? In prayer? In the Word of God? In Witnessing?

Tomorrow, today will be yesterday! Think about that for a moment. You may turn the clock back but not time! Use your time wisely for God’s glory!
