An Influential Advocate
1 John 2:1 – “…we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
The following incident emphasizes the importance of having an influential advocate to plead your cause:
One day a soldier entered the large room outside the office of Abraham Lincoln and sat down among many others who were waiting to see the President. After a while Lincoln’s young son Tad came into the room and was immediately attracted by the serviceman’s uniform. Approaching the veteran, he noticed with increasing interest that he had lost an arm in the war.
The friendly soldier talked with the boy for some time without knowing who he was. The man finally told Tad that he needed to see the President about a very important matter. “That’s no problem,” the lad exclaimed, “he’s my father! “I can get you in!” He then ran off and gained admittance to the inner office by a private entrance.
Eventually a secretary came into the room and notified those who were waiting that the Chief Executive had only a few minutes left to see visitors, and he could not consult with anyone else. Everyone left except the soldier. The aide told him that it was useless to wait. The soldier replied, “The President’s son was here, and he has assured me that I could see his father. “You mean little Tad?” said the secretary. “Yes.” “Well, you will get in then, for he loves that boy and always yields to his wishes!”
Christian friend, with God’s beloved Son pleading your cause at the Father’s right hand (Hebrews 4:14-16), you may be sure that each request will be heard by the Father. The great influential Advocate will see that your prayers “Get In”!
