Getting Ready to Move

2 Corinthians 5:1 – “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”

Recently I had a birthday and I turned 78. Many of my classmates from high school and Bible college have already passed on. I thank the Lord for allowing me to have the health and strength to continue to serve Him in my last days. I want to share with you today an article I read recently by the late J. E. Campbell.

The owner of the “tenement” which I have occupied for many years has given notice that he will furnish but little or nothing more for repairs. I am advised to be ready to move.

At first this was not very welcome news. The surroundings here are in many respects quite pleasant, and if it were not for the evidence of decay, I should consider the “old house” good enough. But even a light wind causes it to tremble and totter, and all the braces are not sufficient to make it secure. So, I am getting ready to move.

How quickly my interest has been transferred to the prospective Home. I’ve been consulting maps of the New Country and ready descriptions of its inhabitants. One who has visited it has returned and from him I learn that it is beautiful beyond human comprehension. Language breaks down in attempting to tell what he heard while there (2 Cor. 12:4). He says that to make an investment in Glory he suffered the loss of all things he owned here, and even rejoices in what others would call “making a sacrifice.”

Best of all, He is waiting there who is preparing a place for me. Then, too, many of my dearest friends have already moved up to that blessed Abode and are expecting me to come and join them. Often I am asked to make some profitable investment here below, but since I am getting ready for that New Home, these things do not interest me anymore. Yes, I am getting ready to move! Friend, do you have a home waiting for you in Heaven? The price has already been paid and you have been invited.
