The Word of God and the Blessed Man
Psalm 1:2 – “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
God blesses the person who loves the Word of God and spends time daily reading the Bible. Here is a great promise for the individual who desires to see God’s blessing in his life. Make the Scriptures an object of your “delight.” It is one thing to read the Bible, yet quite another thing to enjoy it. The blessing of God is promised to the one whose “delight is in the law of the LORD.”
The Bible is God’s love letter to man. It contains practical wisdom for the home, the single person, parents, the elderly, children, employees or employers, friends, citizens, and all others. It gives counsel for our finances, our families, our friendships, and our future. The blessed man is not to seek the counsel of the ungodly, but he is to find his counsel in the pages of Scripture.
This Book reveals the sinfulness of man and the holiness of God. It tells of Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross and the gift of salvation. It describes a place of unfathomable glory for those who are born again and indescribable torment for those who reject Him. This Book of all books searches the heart and brings repentance to the sincere follower of Christ. Something miraculous happens when a person makes it his habit to “delight” in God’s Word.
Our text gives us another hint about the man that will enjoy God’s blessing. Not only does he “delight” in the Scripture, but also “in his law doth he meditate day and night.” God promises to bless meditation upon the Word of God. He wants us to think about what the Bible says, running it over and over in our minds. We are to diligently apply the Scripture to our lives, personalizing its truth to our own experiences. The promises and principles of the Word of God can be and should be absorbed into our thinking.
Our thoughts are actually transformed by the power of truth as our minds are saturated with Scripture. Spiritual blessings are promised to the person who seeks to live according to God’s Word.
